A week at Venus Snow Retreat in Trysil—
I went for ski + yoga, came back slightly more flexible and noticeably less terrible at skiing.
I was on the slopes most days and had lessons with Colin that genuinely helped—he explains things in a simple, no-pressure way and I could actually feel the improvement as the week went on.
Night skiing was a highlight. Turns out skiing in the dark is far more fun than it sounds and makes you feel about 10% cooler than you actually are.
The spa was another highlight, especially the sauna ceremony. A really nice way to unwind after being out on the slopes.
Really appreciated the little extras too—there was a welcome gift waiting in my room (always a good start), and we even got a gift bag at the spa.
The whole week had a very easy, relaxed feel. Wholesome food, nice personal touches like Erika’s homemade infused oils, and plenty of laughs along the way.
All in all: good skiing, good company, and just the right balance of activity and switching off. Would happily do it all again.

I didn’t have any experience of alpine skiing before starting the learning journey with Colin. I only had cross country skiing in my pockets, I was not an advanced skier either.
With the lesson plan during the week, I had a progressive learning: from the basics to advanced skills. I felt comfortable and challenged at the same time. This allowed me to build up confidence in my new skills, in a safe and fun environment.
I committed to learning alpine skiing, and after two trips I was able to enjoy downhill skiing on my own without fear and with difficult snow conditions as well. I was even able to use these skills in mountain skiing!

Joining your snow retreat included many valuable and enjoyable firsts for me…..from visiting Norway, the snow retreat concept, women only, yoga every morning, ski companion/tuition, to the snow activities…husky ride and cross country ski tuition, all tailored to my pace rather than the pace couples and big grown up kids adult group I’ve “skied” with for many years…
The accommodation a beautiful log cabin in a a spectacular Norwegian setting with morning yoga/movement class taught by experienced, friendly, excellent practitioners was a welcome start to our day.
The bedroom accommodation was comfortable for me as a single occupant it would have been unsuitable for dual occupancy….it maybe helpful to explain or showcase the exact nature of the bedroom and bathroom setup ahead of the holiday. The bathrooms were very roomy and a great asset although shared.
Erica’s food was a good standard, tasty and so good to experience Norwegian delicacies….and the Norwegian arm….!!! I particularly appreciated her plentiful and wholesome leisurely breakfasts and hot toddys after a day in the snow and of course fish dishes.
Having afternoon tea and homemade cake would absolutely be the icing on the cake!!!
The personal and attention to detail service Colin gave to being our chaperone/snow/well being manager was a huge asset to venus snow retreats.
The personal companion/ski instructor service offered by Colin suited my green and easier blues type skiing, however managing complete novices and several levels of intermediate skiers proved a challenge and may benefit with additional assistance particularybwhere the group has very distinct requirements.
Colin was able to teach and support my skiing needs in such a way I really took away new techniques which has improved my confidence with skiing.
